{EAV:ec237267e808d100}
If you are anything like me. You can think of Mexico, you can even dream of making retiring there a reality. But if you don’t take action it will always remain just that a dream.

Out there somewhere is the reality that Mexico can be an amazing place to retire. The people are amazing. Simply put some of my best friends in this world come from the amazing city of Mazatlan.

If you are dreaming of living in Mexico please stop dreaming and start making this a reality. There truly is no decision in your life that you will thank yourself more for than just taking the leap.

Mexico is an amazing country. The cost of living. The quality of friends. The joy of just being there. It’s not something you want to pass up.

If The Ocean Had Memories

Maybe that’s why we are attracted to Mexico. To another land. Far enough from home that it’s like we are in a different world, yet close enough to home we can always go back.

Living along the ocean in almost every place I’ve lived in Mexico I’ve come to wonder if the ocean like our souls have the ability to recall moments in time. Like memories.

If the ocean had memories, would they tell the stories of romance, joy, and peace better than anyone else in history.

It would tell the stories of romance better than Solomon recorded.
It would sing sonnets of joy better than Shakespeare.
It would share tales of peace better than Gandhis.

That’s the beauty of Mexico. There’s miles of undeveloped beaches, and shores that any of us can call home. Off the beaten path towns and villages who welcome your experiences, your heritage, your energy and passion for life.

If the Ocean had memories it would tell the story of YOU. And of your journey from your old life into your NEW life in Mexico.

A historic tale of new beginnings. Where anything is possible…

A Day In The Life of An Expat In Mexico

So many people are choosing to move to Mexico. There are numerous reasons why including cost of living, better healthcare, etc.

I talked to this amazing couple today from Alaska. Fairbanks in fact. They left Mexico a week early and are so so glad as Fairbanks is having some of the best weather in the world if you enjoy freezing.

So I asked them about their life. They explained to me that 6 months out of the year they choose to live in Mexico. They enjoy a slower pace of life, take advantage of great healthcare services, and enjoy daily walks to the cafe. They even have a kitchen garden that produces fresh herbs and vegetables while they are living here in Mazatlan.

The #1 they said was that their mental health had improved so much living here. Getting away from the dark winters of Alaska and being able to soak in the sun, and the happiness of others in their own age range.

So great to hear stories like this here in Mazatlan. What about you ? Are you ready to make the move to Mexico ?

How To Select A Real Estate Agent In Mexico

Mexico has lax laws when it comes to real estate agents. The reasons for that are because lawyers do all the heavy lifting in real estate tranactions, and realtors are more like high end marketers for properties.

There is also a high end growth market in for sale by owners in Mexico. Personally I’m a huge fan of buying property on your own. However this method is not for everyone.

That’s why it is important to find a broker you can trust. In Lake Chapala. I recommend only one realtor these days. That’s Lloyd Ajijic Real Estate.

Not only do they have a stellar reputation, but also a great selection of properties, and friendly agents to help you find the house of your dreams.

If you are looking to find a real estate agent at Lake Chapala. These guys are the people I’d call.

7 Reasons Why People Retire In Mexico

There are a number of reasons you are considering retiring in Mexico right now. People all over the United States, Canada, and Europe are pondering making the move to Mexico.

Here are the seven of the most popular reasons.

An Amazing Cost of Living
Life in the United States is getting more and more expensive. Inflation has made the cost of goods unmanageable for many. And as so many of us reach our twilight years we don’t want to stress out about a higher cost of living. We want to live at or above our current standard of living. The best way to do this is to consider living abroad. And Mexico has become the solid choice for people to live. In fact it’s solidified itself as the #1 retirement destination in the world among Americans. Canadians. And Russians!

Very Solid Healthcare System
One of the greatest things about Mexican culture is the focus on PREVENTITIVE medicine. As opposed to pharma driven medicine. They have a state preventitive health insurance program that is driven by a focus on keeping people healthy. And yes foreigners who have FM3′s or permanent residency can participate. On top of that their are a number of affordable clinics that offer prepayment discount programs.

A Great All Year Climate
So many locations in Mexico have a great year round climate. Places like Lake Chapala, Puerto Vallarta, Cabo San Lucas, Guadalajara, Mazatlan, and San Miguel de Allende. There’s no need to suffer through the winter when you can live in a great climate all year round.

A Rich Cultural History
Mexico’s history and cultural resiliency make it attractive on so many levels. They are very welcoming of foreigners who are looking to make a better life in their country. There are so many friendly people looking to guide you, help you along life’s way and make your life simpler and easier here. And it’s all because of the nature of this welcoming society. Rich in european heritage, asian heritage, and american heritage.

A Family Based Society
My favorite part of Mexico is the family driven nature of it. Multiple generations living under one roof, interacting often daily, weekly. The rhythms of family is Mexico’s heartbeat. And because of that once you are accepted as friends, you are also part of Mexico’s big family. The society of the patria.

All Natural Living
With such a variety of fruits, vegetables, spices, and all natural foods. Living in Mexico is much healthier for you because of the affordability of fresh foods.

A Quieter Life
Above all if you are like me who grew up, or has lived in big cities in the US you grow tired of the noise, the loudness of daily living. And you are looking for a slower paced way of life. You get that in Mexico. Even in the big cities. The cities get quiet at night and the rhythms of society calm and it really improves your way of life, it allows you to let go of all those years of stress.

Mexico is a paradise waiting to be discovered. Let’s go….

Retiring and Moving to Mexico

For those who are thinking about retiring in Mexico, there are a few things that you must consider first. Moving to a new place and deciding to settle there is challenging. Retirees and other families who are considering making Mexico their new home should analyze a few things in order for their transition to be smooth and problem free. Listed below are a few common questions asked and their corresponding answer.

How can we prepare for retirement in Mexico?

If you are thinking about retiring or moving in Mexico now, you should start scouting for a house or a property that you would like to live in. Think about the location that you would find suitable for you. If you have the resources, visiting a place you are considering once or twice should be helpful. Observe the environment and analyze if the place is somewhere you see yourself settling in. Of course, you need to prepare your finances for the cost of moving. Moving to a new place is expensive, but the good thing about Mexico is that compared to other places, it is comparably cheap.

Get a visa.

There are three types of visas for anyone who are interested in traveling or retiring in Mexico. Relatively, it is easier to apply for a visa in Mexico than in the US. The three visas that you need to know about are the FMT, FM2, and the FM3 visa.

  • FMT – It is also known as the tourist visa. This is a paper handed over in the plane during your flight to Mexico. You need to fill it out and hand it over the INM (Institucion Nacional de Migracion) personnel at the airport and they will ask you how long you are planning to stay.
  • FM2 – This is a type of permanent residency visa which can lead to permanent residency and citizenship. You can submit your application for this visa in the INM office in Mexico. This visa will allow you to earn money while, find jobs, and earn money in Mexico.
  • FM3 – This visa is for expats who plan to settle permanently in Mexico. This visa will also allow you to buy properties and open bank accounts.

American retirement communities

In the Yucatan living, there is approximately 10,000-100,000 expats in the American retirement communities. One of the popular retirement communities in Mexico is Merida which has a large population of retirees. The country is considered one of the top retirement destinations for those in Canada and USA.

Why is it cheaper to retire in Mexico?

  • Healthcare in Mexico is cheaper. Without compromising standards, visits to the doctor, to the hospital or to the dentist are substantially cheaper.
  • Fuel in Mexico is cheaper. Even if the government has raised prices, it is still considerably cheap in comparison to other countries.
  • Since fuel is cheap, transportation is also cheap in Mexico.
  • Housing, rentals, apartments are affordable. You can rent a 2 bedroom house, apartment or condo at a lesser price than what they are usually priced in the US or Canada.
  • Leisure is cheap. Eating at restaurants or other forms of entertainment are quoted at a lesser price.
